Project Ready Youth Council

Amplifying youth voice is crucial for building strong, inclusive communities and organizations.  It’s no secret that there’s a disconnect between what young people need and what adults think they need. We believe that listening to students and supporting their development with their input is critical.

Developed under our signature program Project Ready, we are proud to announce that we have a Project Ready Youth Council. Comprised of Project Ready students from around the County, the Youth Council meets monthly to plan youth events and programming targeted at what matters to them most.   A youth council serves a pivotal role in guaranteeing that the perspectives and concerns of young people are not just acknowledged but integrated in decision making processes affecting them directly.

The students also serve as an ambassador to their schools and communities and commit to a year of building their voice and serving their communities. 

Youth Council Requirements:

1. Active Project Ready student with the following
   
   1. Completed Project Ready Registration and Media Release Form
   2. Submit transcripts and FERPA permission
   3. Completed ICCDP
   4. Active in KUDER
   5. Active on the Urban League’s GroupMe
2. Excellent attendance and participation
3. Interested in collaborating in a virtual and in-person space with other young people and adult mentors
4. Interested in project-based leadership and learning
5. Positive attitude and energy

Commitments:

1. Meets monthly with additional meetings to be schedule as needed virtually and in person
2. Consistent attendance
3. Willing to learn how to run meetings and learn Roberts Rules of Order
4. Participation in and at Urban League events
5. Pro-active
6. Problem Solver
