JOBS! HOUSING! Educational Training! Employment and other opportunities for economic empowerment continue to be first in the minds of many as we continue into this year. Although there have been some gains in available opportunities for the many who currently are in the market for employment, there is still a level of caution on the part of businesses, large and small as they consider expansion of workforce that were downsized in efforts to survive a brutal economy.
The Urban League of San Diego County (ULSDC) programmatic focus continues to be in the areas of education (youth and adult), economic sustainability (workforce, housing, and financial literacy). We will give special focus to the “jobs” issue. Recently, at our Equal Opportunity Day: Diversity Summit and Urban Leaders Under 40 Awards Luncheon, we examined economic forecasts and proposed strategies for job creation. We hosted a morning political Town Hall session to hear how the current economic environment continues to impact job seekers and employers alike from our political leaders just before the November Elections. We want to do our part to not only hear from but also serve our constituents in ways that help them to sustain and grow.
